Sierra Nevada Brewing Company
全米最古のマイクロ・ブルワリーの中で、最も成功した名門がシェラネバダ。
1979年、創業者のKen Grossmanは友人の自家醸造にインスパイアされ、
自分自身が培ってきた醸造ノウハウを基に、中古機械で一級品のビールを醸します。
1980年には米国のクラフトビールにおける画期的事件ともいえる
Sierra Nevada Pale Aleをリリース。（写真：黄緑ラベル）
噂が噂を呼び、生産が追いつかずとも増産には慎重でしたが、
1989年、現在地に移転し本格操業しました。
1997年からは食事・生演奏も愉しめるTaproomを併設。
オフィシャルHPにもあるように、環境にも最大限の配慮をしています。
日本のクラフトビールもこの堅実な歩みが参考になるでしょう。販売ありきではなく、美味しいビールを造ることが

醸造所名はKenの愛するシェラネヴァダの山々から名付けられました。

キャラメル、黒糖、グレープフルーツ、白い花の香りなど
複雑で呆れるほど香り高く、スパイシーな苦味も心地よい。
店主の吉田も大好きなビールです。
輸送があるので、現地で飲む樽生にはかないませんが、
元のポテンシャルが素晴らしいのでお客様には大変好評です。
この醸造所の基幹品はクラシック・スタイルでありながら楽しみに満ち溢れ…フルボディで個性的。
現地で感激した方も多いのではないでしょうか!?

Kellerweis is one of the only American Hefeweizens
made using the traditional Bavarian style of open fermentation.
This difficult and labor-intensive technique adds uncommon depth and flavor complexity.
Our hazy-golden hefeweizen is deeply flavorful, refreshing and perfect for a sunny day.
To serve, pour two-thirds into a glass, swirl and pour the rest.

クリーミーで細かく踊るような泡は、同社の作品における共通項。
カラメル、モカコーヒーのようなノーズがあり、スタウトほど濃厚ではなく均整の取れた味。
苦味と甘味のバランスが良く、幅広い肉料理に合う優れた食中酒。ワインのように年号入りです。

ポーターより濃厚な漆黒色の液体からは軽く炒ったコーヒー豆や
カカオを想わせる香りがグラスに溢れます。
時折、スタウトに見られるような酸味は、感じさせず口当たりもクリーミー。
赤ワインに合うような食材と抜群のマリアージュを魅せますし、
メッツゲライさんの牛肉の旨みがギュッと詰まったビーフジャーキーなども合います。
